who is sylvia

i love belle from beauty and the beast, and the transformation scene always gives me chills.

i grew up on the sound of music, anne of green gables, and little women, seeing myself in the stories of creative, curious, unconventional girls who grew up to find their voice, power, magic, and community.

as a child, the wind chose me the same way the ocean chose moana, swirly hair and all.

i sing in the shower and in the car, and my kids and i do vocal warm ups and harmonize for fun.

summertime means the smell of jasmine and warm nights at the hollywood bowl, but fall means the leaves change, and the air is crisp, and there’s halloween and of course, my birthday… but then again spring made me a mother in a world full of orange and cherry blossoms, and that’s a feeling you never forget. winter… is beautiful but cold, and cold isn’t my thing. but i do love sparkles and lights soooo…

i grew up catholic (i’m not anymore) and went to immaculate heart (in hollywood) for middle and high school, but my favorite stories were about our founding rebel feminist nuns who left the church so they could continue their community outreach and activism without being told what to do. ih is also where i first learned mindfulness and meditation. and graduating on the hollywood bowl stage gives me bragging rights for life.

i majored in dramatic arts at usc, worked in special events, and was a photo team with my husband over a decade ago. a flair and adoration for the dramatic in presentation and detail, but never, ever in relationships.

after being on the set of veronica mars with my then actor boyfriend (now husband), i will be a forever fan of kristen bell, who is, in fact, an angel, since she remembered my name and our new puppy’s name, and made us feel so cared for.

my husband and i love going to the movies, and popcorn is a requirement because it’s the perfect anywhere, anytime, any day snack.

i will die on this hill: ENERGY FIRST, ALWAYS

First energy, then action, then surrender. Rinse and repeat.

I grew up doing things the hard way, the 3-D way. I denied the things I saw, heard, felt and knew because nobody around me could validate any of it.

I learned to give up my power and my voice, in exchange for safety and acceptance.

Grief, loss, and motherhood were my awakening: the layers of unravelling calling me back to myself, my truth, my soul, my mission.

Learning to be myself (soul and human) cost me relationships, comfort, and my old life.

But I gained all of myself in the process…

And the knowledge of the magic of the Universe, the interconnectedness of all things, and the infinite support available behind the scenes.

If I can do it, you can do it. It’s what you came here to do.

It’s who we came here to be, after all.
